  • Virginia Douglas, Executive Director

    A native of Harlem New York served 17 years in Danbury Federal Correctional Facility, with five years’ supervised release. While incarcerated Ms. Douglas was a part of a group of women in prison who began to have discussions about criminal justice reform and how they could use their experience to create change. Upon release Ms. Douglas began sharing her story and organizing formerly incarcerated women for The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. Currently Ms. Douglas serves as the Executive Director for Step Beyond Women and Girls and Co-Founder/Leadership Team for The National Council. Ms. Douglas continues her work to advocate on behalf of incarcerated women and to educate society in ending incarceration of women and girls.

    Tali Douglas serves as Chief Financial Officer of Step Beyond Women and Girls, providing financial leadership and strategic oversight to support the organization's mission of empowering women, strengthening families, and creating opportunities for successful reentry and community transformation. She oversees financial planning, budgeting, compliance, and resource development, ensuring the long-term sustainability and impact of SBWG's programs and initiatives. Guided by a commitment to accountability and community empowerment, Tali helps advance SBWG's vision of creating stronger, more equitable communities where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

  • Brandi Peterson, Community Organizer

    Brandi Peterson is a Community Organizer at Step Beyond Women and Girls, supporting Participatory Defense and community engagement efforts. She works alongside individuals, families, and community partners impacted by the criminal legal system, helping connect them with resources, advocacy, and support. Through her work, Brandi advances SBWG's mission of empowering women, strengthening families, and building stronger, more equitable communities.
